What is the ‘Dog Internet Of Things’ ?

Owning a dog is a major responsibility. It is also a life changing decision with long term consequences from 6 to 14 years. Dogs are loving creatures with simple needs. Knowing how to manage and care for these needs can be a complex task.

The Dog Internet Of Things is a comprehensive internet platform that will assist you from the day you decide to own a dog, through all the pre-adoption questions that you may to ask, and other questions that you never even considered; from the life style choices to sourcing your new pet. The site offers easy to follow advice on every aspect of canine ownership from coping with anxiety, training needs down to minute details on what dogs eat!

The company (Digital Dog Training Ltd., CRO 657116) and the site does not professionally oversee the dog trainers, dog behaviourists or any canine experts. Our mission is to build, maintain, and support a platform that lets users and canine experts communicate effectively.

Up to now the individual dog owner has been the sole project manager. Now the ‘Dog Internet of Things’ provides you with the knowledge base and indeed an ecosystem of on-line experts. The knowledge base is outlined in a simple accredited Perfect Pet Parent course, and should you wish there is also a certification option. As a support service we run regular real-time webinars with canine experts.

What is our mission?

Dog pounds and rescue shelters are bursting at the seems with unwanted dogs. In many countries this is an invisible crisis. The surrender of a family pet is always a heartbreak, often it is the necessary last resort, sometimes it can be avoided. About 50% of all surrenders have a common history; the original owner did not have sufficient skill or knowledge at point of adoption / purchase. Societies that do not promote basic responsible owner education are failing their pets. Our mission is to ensure that the knowledge & skills gap is addressed by on-line expert offerings.

Who are the contributing experts?

The site has been designed with advice from dog trainers, dog groomers, rescue shelter managers, canine nutritionists, veterinary practitioners and of course many dog owners. This site is effectively the Dogs’ own Internet of Things. Each contributing expert has a short bio and contact details on the site.

What is the ‘Perfect Pet Parent’ course?

The course consists of short videos and links to hard information, articles and other videos, and is designed to give (a) someone considering the idea of getting a dog for the first time a sound theoretical knowledge of all the skills and management structures required for adequate parenting, and (b) provide established dog owners with a library of helpful guidance aimed at improving the pet relationship to its optimal.

This course is accredited by the International Society of Animal Professionals.

How long does it take to complete the ‘Perfect Pet Parent’ course?

You will need at least 2-hours to watch the videos and read the support material. However beyond the basics, there are supplementary articles and videos on the site, these cover comprehensive detail on all aspects of canine care.

Why should I take the exam and get the digital certificate?

Passing the exam of 15 multiple choice questions will provide assurance that you understand the basics of being a responsible owner and what it takes to be the Perfect Pet Parent. In the event that you intend adopting a dog, the course will provide clear guidance on finding the perfect match – a dog that will fit in with your lifestyle. On successful completion a digital certificate is e-mailed to you. this can be held on your mobile phone.Furthermore many experts and indeed the pet dog industry are beginning to recognise the digital certificate. Producing the digital certificate at your local rescue shelter or SPCA will help to inform the manager that you have a clear idea of what you are seeking, and that the adoption is likely to be successful.

What is the cost of getting the digital certificate?

Access to the course material is completely free.

There is a charge of €20 for the certificate. However if you already own a rescue dog from a participating rescue shelter, you may obtain a promo code which negates the charge. Also if you are adopting a dog from a participating rescue shelter, they can provide the promo code.

Is the Dog Internet of Things right for me?

The Dog Internet of things may be right for you if you're looking to improve the quality of your relationship with your pet. Whenever you need an expert ear we may be able to help. Our Perfect Pet Parent course covers many of the details and issues which may save you 100s of hours each year in trying to manage repetitive problems. Also we run regular webinars where we host experts in canine care.

The Dog Internet of Things is NOT the right solution for you if any of the following is true:

·         Your pet is in an urgent crisis or an emergency situation – your dog needs immediate veterinary care rather than training instruction.

·         You are faced with an imminent dangerous situation. Best to call your local SPCA, Local Authority Veterinary Inspector, or local qualified canine behaviourist.

·         You do not have a device that can connect to the Internet or you do not have a reliable Internet connection.

Can The Dog Internet Of Things substitute for traditional face-to-face

training instruction?

No.

The dog trainers, canine training instructors and other experts found on the Dog Internet of Things have their qualifications and credentials displayed on the site (or mentioned in their video presentations). The site can provide you with all the information you need in order to judge what type of expert you need, and how to find them. However, while the service may have similar benefits, it is not capable of substituting for traditional face-to-face instruction in every case.

In various cases this analysis may require specific face-to-face instruction: Your local instructor will be able to provide you with a clear analysis of the underlying causes of your pet’s behaviour.  You will find some guidance on how to choose a canine expert on our responsible owner course (see section: Training your dog).

How can I communicate with a chosen expert ?

All contact details are presented with each expert’s bio. The site also hosts regular live webinars with leading experts from the world of canine care. These webinars offer the perfect opportunity for you to see the experts in action. We also welcome questions to be put to these guests!

The Dog Internet of Things is primarily an education resource. All contributing experts and guest speakers promote the philosophy and practical application of the ‘Perfect Pet Parent’ and responsible dog ownership. Should you wish to engage with any of the featured experts on the site, then all contractual arrangements are strictly between you and your chosen expert.
